It’s raining again, but I won’t complain. After about four years of drought a few years back, I don’t grumble when it rains….but it does make me wonder how far off spring is. The calendar says spring is only a week away, but still the rain spatters out there. Muddied waters roar down the creek. The river is running high. The birds scratch around on the ground and scout the corners under the porch roof for nest sites. Willa is looking rounder while munching on the green grass. Spring must not be far off.
I looked at my photos on the computer and came up with this photo of Kathy from last spring. It teases me into sitting at this computer to write while the rain comes down; letting the creative juices flow as heavily as this rain storm. At least all this rain means plenty of grass and wildflowers this year. It’s time to get them down on paper (err, computer).
It’s late Sat. night, the night of the Great Moon. It cannot be seen for the hellacious winds blowing unrelenting rain. I’m waiting for hail and power outages, the welcome to Spring that is becoming increasingly common to a Sonoma County anymore. Thanks for the reminders of grass and wildflowers to come…I’ll try to keep them in mind through this harsh night.

Thanks, Arletta. Yes, that was a doozey (sp.?) of a night, huh? The wind was so loud I got up in the wee hours & read some chapters from The Haunting of Charles Dickens by Lewis Buzbee. Yep, real smart to read about ghosts during a howling storm like that. It was so dark and blustery I had to think ‘what Great Moon’? Couldn’t even begin to see it. Nothing haunted me though–I was able to go back to sleep.

Thanks, Arletta. I doubt you would have wanted me to call at 1 a.m. though–that’s when I woke up. Got some reading done though.

Hi Robin. Yeah, I keep telling myself “rain is a good thing, rain is a good thing…” but I’m looking forward to telling myself “here comes the sun, here comes the sun…” 🙂

Thanks, Mark!
Yes, I do see some sun out there today popping through between the clouds. Yes, rain is definitely a good thing though.

Well March is certainly trying to go out like the lion this year. This a.m. between midnight and 1o we had 1.5 inches of rain & 25 mph winds. Yikes! The road is a mess and the creek is high. We’ve had to cancel our beach ride for next Saturday.
