With just the title of this poignant novel, The Coming of Charlotta, the idea of mystery began to form in this reader’s head. I was pulled in by the title. It seemed so spellbinding. Then the characters on the remote Maine island sucked me into their story. I loved the emotional puzzle. This novel from author H.B. Reid was considerably different from some of his previously published, often humorous stories. I didn’t find humor here so much, but I found an intriguing story that I could not put down. It was impressive to me to be pulled into the characters’ emotions and problems, and yet arrive at a fulfilling conclusion. H.B. Reid once again delivers, especially during and after the hurricane which traps them all on the island. A must read!
